Captain James came through! I had friends visiting from the mainland and booked the Whipsaw because they have one of the best catch rates for Honolulu charter boats. Captain James gave a safety orientation and then we were underway. 1st mate Nate gave an awesome fishing orientation that included info for the novice & experienced fisherman. The trend for the week we went was that most boats weren’t catching so I prepared my mainland friends for possibly a long boat ride. However Captain James brought us into one of the largest aku piles I had ever seen. Along with four other boats, we worked the pile but unfortunately they weren’t biting but what an amazing site to get to witness. Even if we didn’t hook up, I was already satisfied. Over the course of the day we had two knockdowns, one of which was marlin and 1st mate Nate aggressively reeled and free spooled to see if the marlin would give us a second chance to hook up but it just didn’t happen. Towards the end of the day we decided to run the 40 fathom ledge heading back to dock to see if we could catch an ono. Much to our surprise we ended up hooking up and landing a 20 pound yellowfin tuna. A very happy ending for a full day of fishing. The crew cleaned the fish so there was sashimi for everyone. I have been on many charter boats but in all my years, the Whipsaw is one of the nicest boats with a very hospitable crew. I booked their boat two other times and fished with Captain Will & 1st mate Tom and they as well are true professionals. On top of it all, the air conditioned cabin is a nice treat to beat the heat. I will definitely book the Whipsaw in the future.

We had an awesome crew Captain James and Tom provided an awesome experience. We did the 6 hour fishing tour and had a great time. They took us to their spots and we were able to catch a 35 pound tuna. They crew was knowledgeable and answered any questions you asked. I would highly recommend fishing with them. They provide ice and clean your catch for you. Thanks again to the crew. Y’all were awesome. When we return to Hawaii, we will definitely use y’all again. And to any of my friends coming out here. I would highly recommend Whipsaw sportfishing… My 14 year old son and i went out with Will and Tom and caught a couple mahi mahi and sharks… But the day was slow overall and the guys had to really work for the bites. I appreciated the professionalism and passion for their craft. It was obvious that they were doing everything they could to put us on fish. Slow days on the water are what separates good crews from the ok crews. These guys stayed upbeat and positive the entire time and made us feel very welcome, Ive done a few charters in multiple locations and these guys were the best by far.
Had a great time fishing 8 hours on a private charter 2 different days during our vacation. Captain Will did a great job finding fish for us. Deck hands were amazing at helping us with the fish along with marking sure we were comfortable and answering any questions we had throughout our day. Would definitely book with them again.

My wife and myself are here in Hawaii for 10 days. We are celebrating my 50th Birthday, which is on September 10th!
Being a die hard Largemouth Bass Angler, I had to book a fishing trip! The lists were long and the reviews were plenty! Many of them were atrocious!! Folks not getting a trip that they paid for. No refunds. Rude crews, etc..
Whipsaw had what we were looking for! After reading through their reviews, we were pleased and booked a 4 hr shared trip! The trip was focused on going after Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Marlin, etc!! These are fish that I only see on tv and eat in restaurants back home in Virginia! Capt Will called me, and we spoke about the older reviews which weren’t all that great. He assured me that since he has been on board, customer service has improved greatly!! We covered specifics, managed the payment, and I ended the call very pleased! He took time out to call me and take care of loose ends and answer my questions/concerns!
The day arrived and I met Capt Will and his First Mate Tom aboard, “The Whipsaw” Once all 6 of us were present, we boarded, went over some safety information, and other important things, and we took off!
I sat in awe as I watched Tom set up all the tackle, and get lines out into the water! We were, “Trolling” on this trip.
The water was, “Very Rough,” per Capt Will. We reached a marker buoy that indicated we were in 6,000ft of water. The boat was being rocked by 5 to 7 ft swells, per Capt Will!! His maneuvering skills and Tom’s attention to detail kept us safe, inspite of the conditions!
The decision was made to switch to live bait, and we stopped trolling. Tom pulled out what I thought were ballyhoo (live bait) and switched to a live rig. I’m convinced that Tom secretly is Spider-Man as he was sure footed while the boat was taking on the swells. He got the rig out, and within minutes, “Fish On!!” He called out to our numbered rod holder to get into the fighting chair!!
The fish fought just as hard as the swells, but we landed a Beautiful 30+Inch Mahi-Mahi!
There weren’t any other fish in the area, and the Capt decided that with the conditions, we should turn around, troll, and head back in. We all wanted more fishing action, but we made it back in with no more action. Tom brought in all the rigs, and secured all the tackle. Soon we were back in the slip. Capt Will and Tom did an excellent job! They were apologetic re; the fishing, but we’re more concerned about each of our experiences and what we thought about the trip/experience! Very professional! When we come back to Hawaii, I will definitely book with Whipsaw again!! As long as Capt Will and Tom are still around!!

When the best times of my life, I couldn’t wait to get to Hawaii and when I had a chance to charter a boat this is the one I chose. The captain and crew were awesome. Although we only caught a 35 pound tuna It was worth everything I always dreamed of.Please book these guys they are awesome and I would definitely book them again next time we are in Hawaii.

Fished on Whipsaw on Oct 28, 2020. Captain Will and Tom were great. I fish on a lot of charters all over the world—This boat is extremely well set up with the best tackle and safety gear available. We cruised about 15 miles offshore and found floating FAD debris (looked like a telephone pole floating vertically). Wife and I landed double Mahi Mahi on the first pass. We pulled a dozen or so small YellowFin Tuna and another Mahi. Also bridled a couple of the Tuna (love baited with them) and had huge hits—lost both of them though. We released several tuna for another day, then headed home. Very comfy cabin with cold AC, coffee, microwave, etc.

Great time with Captain Teoni and Sam. Both gentlemen were very informative on the ins and outs of deep sea fishing, and worked diligently in helping us to catch a fish. The vessel Play N Hooky is well equipped and maintained very clean. During our 3/4 day trip, we were able to reel in a Mahi Mahi and Tuna. The entire family had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Definitely recommended.
Captain Rush and his First Mate Tom were top notch! The boat was clean and comfortable. We started catching fish soon after taking off. Highly recommend The Whipsaw to anyone looking to get after tuna, marlin, or Mahi mahi. Worth every penny!

Fished with Capt Will and First Mate Tom on 04/27/22 with my wife and youngest daughter. Both know their stuff. Capt Will put us on the fish and Tom really knows how to run the deck. My daughter caught the first fish of the day and the largest, a 37 lb Ono (Wahoo). She was beyond excited. We kept 5 tuna, released a Mahi Mahi and had several more strikes. Fishing wasn’t the whole trip. We got to see Pilot Whales up close, as well as flying fish, many different bird species and a USN submarine (on the surface) escorted us along for about an hour. The boat is comfortable and easy to fish from. I would highly recommend Whipsaw Sportfishing! Thanks again Will and Tom!

Much to our surprise we ended up hooking up and landing a 20 pound yellowfin tuna. A very happy ending for a full day of fishing. The crew cleaned the fish so there was sashimi for everyone. I have been on many charter boats but in all my years, the Whipsaw is one of the nicest boats with a very hospitable crew. I booked their boat two other times and fished with Captain Will & 1st mate Tom and they as well are true professionals. On top of it all, the air conditioned cabin is a nice treat to beat the heat. I will definitely book the Whipsaw in the future.

You must experience this! Don Hackman and his crew were extremely professional and great to hang out with. Most importantly Don knew exactly where to go and I caught a 200lb Ahi which I ate on for days!! I felt very safe and had a great time, I highly recommend a full day charter!

Will and his crew (Thomas & Nate) did a fantastic job showing us a great time while making sure everyone stayed safe. They were very professional but just as enthusiastic as we were when we hooked into fish. It was a great day catching a bunch of fish! Couldn’t believe I got to land a spearfish!
Captain James came through! I had friends visiting from the mainland and booked the Whipsaw because they have one of the best catch rates for Honolulu charter boats. Captain James gave a safety orientation and then we were underway. 1st mate Nate gave an awesome fishing orientation that included info for the novice & experienced fisherman. The trend for the week we went was that most boats weren’t catching so I prepared my mainland friends for possibly a long boat ride. However Captain James brought us into one of the largest aku piles I had ever seen. Along with four other boats, we worked the pile but unfortunately they weren’t biting but what an amazing site to get to witness. Even if we didn’t hook up, I was already satisfied. Over the course of the day we had two knockdowns, one of which was marlin and 1st mate Nate aggressively reeled and free spooled to see if the marlin would give us a second chance to hook up but it just didn’t happen. Towards the end of the day we decided to run the 40 fathom ledge heading back to dock to see if we could catch an ono. We had an awesome crew Captain James and Tom provided an awesome experience. We did the 6 hour fishing tour and had a great time. They took us to their spots and we were able to catch a 35 pound tuna. They crew was knowledgeable and answered any questions you asked. I would highly recommend fishing with them. They provide ice and clean your catch for you. Thanks again to the crew. Y’all were awesome. When we return to Hawaii, we will definitely use y’all again. And to any of my friends coming out here. I would highly recommend Whipsaw sportfishing… My 14 year old son and i went out with Will and Tom and caught a couple mahi mahi and sharks… But the day was slow overall and the guys had to really work for the bites. I appreciated the professionalism and passion for their craft. It was obvious that they were doing everything they could to put us on fish. Slow days on the water are what separates good crews from the ok crews. These guys stayed upbeat and positive the entire time and made us feel very welcome, Ive done a few charters in multiple locations and these guys were the best by far.

Being a die hard Largemouth Bass Angler, I had to book a fishing trip! The lists were long and the reviews were plenty! Many of them were atrocious!! Folks not getting a trip that they paid for. No refunds. Rude crews, etc..
Whipsaw had what we were looking for! After reading through their reviews, we were pleased and booked a 4 hr shared trip! The trip was focused on going after Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Marlin, etc!! These are fish that I only see on tv and eat in restaurants back home in Virginia! Capt Will called me, and we spoke about the older reviews which weren’t all that great. He assured me that since he has been on board, customer service has improved greatly!! We covered specifics, managed the payment, and I ended the call very pleased! He took time out to call me and take care of loose ends and answer my questions/concerns!
The day arrived and I met Capt Will and his First Mate Tom aboard, “The Whipsaw” Once all 6 of us were present, we boarded, went over some safety information, and other important things, and we took off!
I sat in awe as I watched Tom set up all the tackle, and get lines out into the water! We were, “Trolling” on this trip.
The water was, “Very Rough,” per Capt Will. We reached a marker buoy that indicated we were in 6,000ft of water. The boat was being rocked by 5 to 7 ft swells, per Capt Will!! His maneuvering skills and Tom’s attention to detail kept us safe, inspite of the conditions!
The decision was made to switch to live bait, and we stopped trolling. Tom pulled out what I thought were ballyhoo (live bait) and switched to a live rig. I’m convinced that Tom secretly is Spider-Man as he was sure footed while the boat was taking on the swells. He got the rig out, and within minutes, “Fish On!!” He called out to our numbered rod holder to get into the fighting chair!!
The fish fought just as hard as the swells, but we landed a Beautiful 30+Inch Mahi-Mahi!
There weren’t any other fish in the area, and the Capt decided that with the conditions, we should turn around, troll, and head back in. We all wanted more fishing action, but we made it back in with no more action. Tom brought in all the rigs, and secured all the tackle. Soon we were back in the slip. Capt Will and Tom did an excellent job! They were apologetic re; the fishing, but we’re more concerned about each of our experiences and what we thought about the trip/experience! Very professional! When we come back to Hawaii, I will definitely book with Whipsaw again!! As long as Capt Will and Tom are still around!!

Captain Will and Tom were nothing short of amazing. We booked an extremely last minute fishing charter. We met up at 0530 and left immediately. Will already had a lead on where to get to a good fishing spot, and as soon as we got there we snagged four Mahi Mahi and three tuna. The experience was a bucket list item for me and the crew didn’t fail to impress me. There’s literally nothing like catching a big fish right out of the ocean. Fished with Capt Will and First Mate Tom on 04/27/22 with my wife and youngest daughter. Both know their stuff. Capt Will put us on the fish and Tom really knows how to run the deck. My daughter caught the first fish of the day and the largest, a 37 lb Ono (Wahoo). She was beyond excited. We kept 5 tuna, released a Mahi Mahi and had several more strikes. Fishing wasn’t the whole trip. We got to see Pilot Whales up close, as well as flying fish, many different bird species and a USN submarine (on the surface) escorted us along for about an hour. The boat is comfortable and easy to fish from. I would highly recommend Whipsaw Sportfishing! Thanks again Will and Tom!

When the best times of my life, I couldn’t wait to get to Hawaii and when I had a chance to charter a boat this is the one I chose. The captain and crew were awesome. Great time with Captain Teoni and Sam. Both gentlemen were very informative on the ins and outs of deep sea fishing, and worked diligently in helping us to catch a fish. The vessel Play N Hooky is well equipped and maintained very clean. During our 3/4 day trip, we were able to reel in a Mahi Mahi and Tuna. The entire family had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Definitely recommended.
