Hawaii’s Largest City

With a metropolitan population of just under one million, Honolulu is the largest city in Hawaii and a major center of culture, sport, business, and government. Such a large city located close to the beach allows you to experience the state’s natural beauty while having easy access to all the conveniences of modern life, achieving a balance between the two. Downtown Honolulu is Oahu’s epicenter of business and finance.

Location & Lodging

If you’re staying in or around downtown Honolulu, you may opt for a hotel in nearby Waikiki, or you can stay in:

  • Hotels– The Executive Center is a condo unit in the heart of downtown Honolulu. If you’re in town for business in this part of Oahu, this is a very convenient location as it’s walking distance to most businesses in Honolulu’s financial district. The Hawaii Prince Hotel and the Ala Moana Hotel border Honolulu and Waikiki.

  • AirBNB– Looking to experience Honolulu as its citizens do? Through AirBNB, you can stay in local condos and apartments for as little as $35 a night. Many of these sites offer parking, WiFi, pools, beach access, and a number of other amenities.

  • Vacation Rentals– Starting at $500 per week, you can rent a suite, condo, or other lodging places. Vacation rentals typically sleep between 2 and 5 people, and offer easy access to the beach, shopping centers, and other locations.

Lodging is never hard to find in Honolulu. No matter your budget, interests, or plans, you’ll have no trouble living in both convenience and luxury while in this city.

Things To Do In Honolulu

If you’re staying in Honolulu, this town has a variety of activities you’ll want to take advantage of.

  • Museums– Honolulu is home to the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, which hosts 24 million specimens and fossils from Hawaii’s natural history, including collections of minerals, fish, insects, and plants. The museum also holds artifacts from the island’s indigenous peoples, as well as Polynesian cultures from the surrounding area.

  • Arts– The Honolulu Symphony, Hawaii Opera Theatre, and Neal Blaisdell Center Concert Hall offer access to an array of music styles and genres, including traditional Hawaiian music. You can also see live plays at the Diamond Head Theater, visual art at the Honolulu Museum of Art, and, if you visit in the fall, films at the Hawaii International Film Festival.

  • Shopping and Dining– If you’re a foodie, you will not be disappointed with the selection of restaurants and shops here. Be sure to check out Chinatown for a cultural and culinary experience.

  • Water Sports– Honolulu and its surrounding waters are known for their thrilling, refreshing water sports. These include wake boarding, banana boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, jet skiing, and waterskiing. Ala Moana beach park is a popular destination for locals.

In addition to water sports, Honolulu is a major site for deep sea fishing trips. Whipsaw Sportfishing has extensive experience organizing such trips, taking Honolulu’s residents and visitors out to catch marlin, tuna, sail fish, mahi mahi, and a cornucopia of underwater game. By wrestling with these and other powerful fish, you will build new strength while gaining a unique appreciation for Hawaii’s aquatic wildlife.
